4" x 4.25", meticulously hand-painted in Slovakia on the back of the glass, with wood frame and hook.
This technique, also called back-painted glass, originated in China. Near the end of the Renaissance, it was adapted for use with water based paints in Italy and subsequently grew in popularity across the rest of Europe.
