NOTE: Due to the continuing decline in the value of the US dollar and rapidly rising shipping costs, we
cannot offer any Slovak pottery at this time. We sincerely apologize for disappointing those who want to
purchase that beautiful pottery. We are exploring alternative ways of getting at least a limited assortment of
small pieces of Slovak pottery. Please check back here periodically.
Modra pottery Since the 16th century, the village of Modra in western Slovakia has been widely
known for both it's winemaking and it's colorful pottery. Technically known as majolica, these creative,
ceramic pieces are available in four color choices, handpainted on a white background: traditional (yellow,
green and blue), festive (same as traditional with dark red highlights), blue and green, as
shown here.
Pozdisovce pottery This pottery is characterized by its distinctive dark brown background and
bright colors used in the painting. Pozdisovce, located in eastern Slovakia in the region known as Zemplin,
has a 500 year tradition of making this distinctive, beautifully decorated pottery. Many Slovak Americans
have ancestors from this part of Slovakia.
Boleslawiec pottery This distinctive and popular Polish stoneware was added in 2005 in response
to customers' requests. Made of white clay fired in excess of 2450° F (1350° C), this elegant, hand-stamped
pottery is extremely durable, food-safe (no lead or cadmium), and may be used in the oven, microwave, and
dishwasher. Each piece is certified first quality. The Ceramika Artystyczna company makes over 600
shapes and decorates them with over 2500 patterns. Slovak Folk Crafts has several thousand pieces in
stock at all times in over 20 patterns making it impossible to display in this online store. Shown below is one
piece from each of the 10 most popular patterns in 10 different shapes with the hope this will give you
some idea of what these lovely pieces look like. If you can not come to the Slovak Folk Crafts store in
Grove City, PA, to choose from this very large inventory, call toll-free 1-866-SLOVAKS, and an experienced
staff person will describe the shapes on hand in the patterns you are interested in. Click on the 10
